Today we accomplished much. After Mayana's medical exam (in which they declared her healthy, with (at least) 2 cavities, and 20/25 vision), we strolled over to the Shifu shopping area. There the girls cuddled with cute puppies for sale and viewed an amazing array of edibles(?) and medicinal herbs, including snake skins & turtle shells. With Helen as our guide, this little tour was actually much more interesting than some of the Temple tours we joined.
We lunched in the room before heading to the park for playground time. Later we headed to the passport office to apply for her passport.
Mayana interacted a bit more with Daddy, today, but she's still mostly stand-off-ish and sometimes a little mean and rude. We have found the need to be a bit stern with her as she tests us. She just started mocking Grace in the bathtub -- repeating what she said, "Mei .... what did I tell you?" "Mei -- what di a te uu." Amazing how that kind of obnoxiousness is cross-cultural.
Well, once again, I'm not through typing, but I must sign off. Busy being Mommy. I hope to have more time tomorrow.

Please do not get to upset with her parroting everything you say. It is one way they learn english. And remember cantonese is a very sing songy language so her mimicing may not be teasing. I would just say very good every time she repeats what you say and smile. She is trying to please you I am sure. My little maomingster has such good manners and is so eager to please, try to interpret Mayana's behavior that way. I know you have done adopted more times than us and she is your daughter - mom and dad know best, just suggestions.... Elizabeth- Gabriella HuanHe's mom
From MaoHuanHe - Gabriella HuanHe...
Our daughter loves Mayanna. She has always said that MaoMeiXang was the nicest girl ever. I think our daughter looked up to Mayanna at the orphanage as the sweetest big sister. Gabbie came back to MSWI a year before we adopted her from an abusive home. She has been thrown, kicked and hit. She even went to the hospital with a gash in her head. She was very scared when she went back to MSWI. Mayanna, Gabbie said, was like an angel without wings. Say hi to Helen for us. Keith, Elizabeth and Gabbie Roller
I'm still praying & believing that things will smooth out beautifully as she is able to more effectively communicate. She radiates of life & joy... What a blessing she is..
Love to you all, Barb
